The Heavens Above

Beyond the confines of the Veil lies the Empyrean Plane, an impossible realm of celestial structures. It is less a geographical place than it is a sense of being, culminating in the Watchtower. This infinite observatory overlooks all Realms beneath it with little restriction. It is home to the Ilyri and their Tribunal, an order that governs not through mortal rule of the Realms, but through the manipulation of fate itself.

The Tribunal's Arbiters possess the ability to perceive possible consequences before they occur, determining which events are permitted to unfold and intervening whenever an event threatens the balance of existence. These intrusions, known as Corrections, alter causality to prevent outcomes forbidden by the Tribunal. Corrections span from the mundane to the radical, the most extreme of which is to Silence: erasing someone or something from history as though it had never existed. This can, and has, been performed on entire worlds.

The Ilyri are not born divine. Each was once mortal, elevated through the process of Ascension and granted the extraordinary ability to cross the Veil since long before the Rifts appeared. For ages beyond memory, this has given the Tribunal and its Arbiters jurisdiction over the shape of history.

But the Convergence has created something the Tribunal cannot fully foresee. The Nexus and its mysterious Axions exist beyond the limits of their foresight, making them the first phenomenon in Ilyri history that cannot be reliably predicted. To the Tribunal, the Nexus may be a threat to cosmic balance—or something far more dangerous: a force capable of placing their authority beyond their own control.
